Notes on communication and social media
- there are phrases like "the introspection makes me uncomfortable"
- that 2 or 3 years ago if i read them i would roll my eyes , because the phrase itself is intertwined with a mess of word images , and that's such a corny way to put it you didnt really think it like that you're posturing to get a certain reaction you're just a introspection guy mr instrospection you want everybody to think you're so fucking introspective
- but the thing id say to my past self is: what would you say instead ? because yes , "the introspection makes me uncomfortable" fails to adequetly encode the feeling of the infinite breadth of human experience. and yes it is clearly lifted , socially constructed , not a new discovery. so what would you say instead ?
- what would you say instead ? and if you dont have a replacement immediately then you'd say the same thing. that's the thing son. you read others through the bottleneck of course they are low res . YOU WILL NEVER BE HIGH RES TO ANYONE BUT YOURSELF
- you see my model of social media before was something like the platonic ideal of newspapers. Supply driven. There is a collection of facts they sample and present to you. Here is what people think. But it’s not. Ive realized it to be demand driven. Every possible sentiment is tried as a shower thought. One in a million hits someones fears on the head and gets engagement. The creator gets audience captured into that. Demand driven.
- social media is a soup where people’s fears and insecurities float to the top. Hence why headlines are unconnected to reality.
