The great swinging censer in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral is called the Botafumeiro — and seeing it fly through the cathedral is one of the most unforgettable moments on the Camino. First recorded in the 12th century, this giant silver-plated incense burner weighs around 60–80 kilos depending on how it’s measured, and can swing almost to the ceiling at speeds close to 70 km/h, trailing clouds of incense through the dark air of the cathedral. Originally, they say, it helped mask the smell of exhausted medieval pilgrims after weeks on the road. And yes — it once crashed spectacularly. In 1499, during a royal visit by Catherine of Aragon, the Botafumeiro broke loose and flew straight out a cathedral window. Miraculously, nobody was killed. I’ve been sleeping on homemade yogurt because it is genuinely SO easy Continuing our no-preservatives journey over here and just trying to make more of what we can at home. ingredients: • whole milk • yogurt with live cultures (or starter) how i did it (insta pot method): • pour milk into clean/sterile jars • place jars in a pot of water + heat milk to 180° • remove + let cool to 110° • stir in 1 tbsp yogurt into each jar • place jars on trivet in insta pot + add 1 cup water • press yogurt setting (about 8 hours) • refrigerate when done that’s it. i usually add vanilla, honey, or homemade granola 🤍 no insta pot? you can place jars in the oven with the light on (oven OFF) and let sit 8–12 hours — just make sure it stays warm (around 100–115°). i like to add a bowl of warm water in there to help keep the heat steady. #fromscratchliving #simplehomemaking #midwestmomlife #slowlivingvibes #homemadegoodness

Chocolate chip banana upside down cake🍫🍌🙃I’ve made a bunch of weird upside down shit so here’s something normal for once (it was really good) 📌Save for recipe Ingredients: Topping: - Nonstick cooking spray, for greasing - 3 just-ripe sliced lengthwise - 150g granulated sugar - 30g water Cake: - 200g granulated sugar - 170g melted butter - 2 large eggs, room temp - 120g sour cream - 2 tsp vanilla extract - 240g all-purpose flour - 6g kosher salt - 3g baking powder - 1.5g baking soda Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9-inch cake pan with nonstick spray and line with parchment. 2. Arrange sliced bananas inside the pan. 3. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Without stirring, swirl the pan occasionally until a deep amber caramel forms. 4. Pour into the pan over the bananas. 5.
